BE THERE FOR CLEAN AIR

It's still not a done deal! Durham Region's project to build a waste incinerator goes to Regional Council for a decision Wed June 24th. If we act now — together — we can help stop this project. Incineration is not safe and not sensible. We advocate instead for Zero Waste, an approach that avoids incineration and strives to send less and less materials to landfills.

Regional Council Meeting: Council Watcher's Blog The results from the Durham Region Council meeting June 24th. The meeting went until 2:15am in the morning and the gallery was still full of concerned residents (we outnumbered the suits). Some 60 speakers told councillors about the problems with the incinerator and the process used to approve it. We used the generic user ID — Council Watcher — because more than one person was adding to the blog.

Reports: Regional consultants and Clarington peer reviewer reports. Three staff reports were released Friday June 12 before the Tue June 16 committee votes. COW-01 is Dr. Kyle's report on health and ecological risks. COW-02 is the Host Community Agreement with Clarington; COW-03 (broken up into sections because of size) is the actual business, public works and financial report on the entire project. Clarington commissioned its own consultants to review the regional reports.

Councillors: Addresses and phone numbers Contact Durham Region councillors by phone or email. They won't know how you feel if you don't tell them.
